Look at urban photos from the turn of the past century, and you are likely to
see painted wall advertising. Before television, billboards, illumination and
other manufacturing techniques became popular, the wall was the dominant
advertising medium. The past few decades have seen a resurgence of the hand
painted mural. Large format is the key: some murals can cover hundreds of square
feet. For most businesses, a mural is an investment that pays for itself for
years to come. Others, in premium downtown wall areas, can be up for only a few
months, and still be a huge bargain in terms of visual impact and brand
recognition.
